OUGD303. Initial thoughts, ideas and intent for the module.

From finishing the first module, my Umbrella statement was as follows-

'Effectively visualise data and information in a variety of typographically driven print solutions'

From the previous module, I found I was producing alot of identity work in my practice, which I enjoyed, but I do need to put a cap on it to expand my practice and portfolio a little more. 'Effectively visualise data and information' is something I want to develop further, a little more concise and specific with what work I want to produce and research.

Access, and accessibility has always been an interest of mine towards graphic design which I haven't developed as much in the past. Producing visually interesting work that is available to all, and that will benefit the user.

Typography again will be the main drive for the design, and a stronger use of print solutions. With Matthew Whatley Architecture being so successful with foils, and stocks.. I want to produce more work like this.

Okay, so instead of dribbling on anymore, here are certain themes, disciplines and skills I want to undertake.

Themes/subjects.
-Healthcare
-Access/accessibility
-Instruction/direction
-Navigation
-Infrastructure
-Commercial/retail solutions

Design Context/Disciplines.
-Print Processes + Finishing
-Layout/publication
-Packaging
-Type design

Skills.
-Fontographer
-Export for print
-Colour theory
-Print processes
-Accessibility for design

With these in mind, before the first initial progress crit, my statement as it stands is

'With a focus on print finish, producing typographic instruction + direction for commercial solutions'

In terms of translating that into briefs, initial ideas include-

-Panamax packaging
-Flatland
-Beautiful Characters - T-shirt brand
-Pharmacy Navigation (development from panamax?)
-Yearbooks
-End of year show identity + navigation
-Healthcare
-Type design
-Instruction manuals
-Menus
