Copenhagen Wayfinding App

The technology is featured in many other apps for outdoor use, allowing mobile phones to be used for orientation purposes.
The new app is an update on the CPH iPhone application originally launched in the summer of 2010, further improved to better inform passengers about e.g. the walking distances to gates, the way to the nearest coffee shop or how to book parking.
The app allows users to ‘scan’ the terminals for information using their iPhone camera. The camera will photograph points of interest such as shops, restaurants and gates and tell users their distance to those points and in which direction they are located.
Most people are familiar with GPS positioning with apps such as Google Maps but because GPS signals cannot penetrate concrete structures, this technology does not successfully work inside the terminal buildings, the airport explained. Instead, the airport’s finely meshed Wi-Fi infrastructure will be used to provide as precise positioning as GPS indoors.

Protraying information - 'Shorter commercial breaks'

Incredible how brands can become so popular that even with a reduced amount of information but key brand guidelines, brands are still very obvious.

Studio - e-types

As a studio e-types produces a wide range of information graphic design and publications, and type design. the studio uses simple effective use of colour to create clean and functional design for a variety of clients.

'e-Types was founded in 1997 and currently employs 20 people. We have three main competences: Brand Strategy, Graphic Design and Image Campaigns for fashion and luxury brands.

We view the diversity of our activities as an enormous asset - and as a great way to incorporate creative diversion into our work life. As a result, it is not uncommon for us to be working on a visual identity for a learning institution or theatre one day, brand strategy for a fashion brand the next day and on design programmes for a new magazine or a major brewery the day after that.

Our approach to design is characterized by a solid belief in integrating the graphic and visual into a strategic perspective - crafting the design into a framework that is capable of conveying the brand's essence along with a style and atmosphere that supports and promotes the brand's identity and positioning. By employing professionals from a variety of disciplines, our graphic designers, architects, fashion designers and strategists are able to approach a project from different angles, drawing upon the teams combined experience and competency. In the end, it's not difficult to make something that looks good - the challenge is to find that one strong idea that can carry a visual identity forward.

We gravitate between highly accomplished commercial clients, solid public institutions and the more off-centre and trendy - allowing us to retain our dynamics and avoid being locked into one particular segment or type of client. We believe this provides us with an edge that we can apply to all our clients since the different segments and industries constantly overlap and inspire each other.'

Cut away on the P for Politi is a really nice accent to the design which makes the design choice really unique.

Print into copper/brass works incredibly well. Obvious for the user, but much more subtle to the surroundings in which its placed. Environment has been considered.

Playtype - Online type foundry.

Beautiful type foundry online and demonstrates their typography in interactive compositions and correct placement, beautiful pieces of typography to watch in different scenarios.

Protraying information - Minimalist effect in a Maximalist Market.

Antrepo a multi-disciplinary design agency have recently created a series of packaging examples of well-known brands both here and the USA and removing elements of the design back to the essentials and finding out what people prefer, what they call 'minimalist effect in a maximalist market.' Although the final removed elements packaging are refreshing and refined, with the exception of Nutella possibly, the only way you relate with the design now is because of previous experience with the product. If these designs were new, they would lose a little intergrity and could be seen as too minimal and contempory for todays general public. More information can be found here on their blog.

Another of my favourites, a really nice combination of colour, simple vector logo and one of my favourite typefaces, futura. Aswell as great for discussion, the idea of removing unnecessary elements to a design, especially packaging can produce a much more effective piece of design. With a later brief, an examination of packaging elements will be undertaken.

Protraying information - 'Stereotype'

Daizi Zheng has created packaging concepts to manipulate junk food and medication to contain healthy products, so the idea is change peoples peoples bad habits. The delivery of the concept isn't as strong, but the concept challenges the understanding of stereotypes and displays the power of packaging and visual imagery. Don't judge a book by its cover?

7 Billion.

I love when important issues are displayed with powerful, eye catching typography. Displaying important information in interesting ways encourages more to take in that information.

A fine example from National Geographic concerning the Earth's global population approaching the 7 billion mark. Enjoy and take note.
