So! here we go.
As agreed since before christmas, the first mention of Yearbooks, a group of us had already decided on who to collaborate with. So for pitches for The BAGD book will be between Myself, Adam Townend and Dan Boome. A nice little mix of formal layout, type as image, typography and strong interest in print and colour.
In terms of concept for our proposal, its taking some time to pin point on something. We all want to get across the idea of how much we work towards the course and how much effort is applied, but pulling it to a statement to work from. Original ideas are things like hour/minute/second threads and combinations of hard work to translate into designs.
I think we all have our ideas and intentions for the yearbook and the sort of work we want to produce. For the yearbook, I think the intention is to showcase the work both coming from the course, and from the individual students on it. Previous layouts and examples demonstrate work and the student on spreads but focus is confused in layout, the user tends to focus on how the student looks, facial expression and posture instead of the quality of work. On BA graphic design we put in alot of hard work towards our practice, and it feels a waste to display so little of it. I feel the yearbook should be functional and content driven, showcasing the work we put so much into, not who created it. (so much)
Initial thoughts-
Content driven
Hard work
Reflection
Commitment
Passion
Focus
Drive
